Lakers Take 5th at Regional Championship

The Iowa Lakes men's golf team ended up eight shots from extending their season and advancing to the NCJAA DII National Championship, finishing in 5th place with a two day total of 632. Kirkwood Community College took home the region title with a team total of 601, Des Moines Area Community College took second with 612, and North Iowa Area Community College took third place and secured the final spot with a score of 624.

Iowa Lakes started the tournament with a day one total of 319, ten shots behind NIACC for the third place spot. With a second round score of 313, the Lakers were only able to make up two shots as the Trojans finished with a 315. Leading the way for the all-freshman Laker squad was Sterling McIlravy with a two day total of 155, five shots out of qualifying individually for the national tournament.

Coach Weber had this to say about the tournament and season; "Unfortunately we dug ourselves too big a hole on day one that we just could not climb out of. The guys grinded the best that they could, and I was really proud of the way they stuck in there and fought. Sometimes you just can't quite get firing on all cylinders and that was the case for both days. These guys have a lot of talent and high ceilings and I am really excited for what their futures hold. It's not too often that your entire varsity line-up will be returning for another season, so we have a lot to look forward to. Everybody, including myself, learned a lot from this tournament and the entire season and are hungry for another chance to show what they are capable of. I can't thank them enough for my first full season as a coach and I am really looking forward to seeing what these guys can do."
