Lakers Claim 1st Win of 2018-19 Season
The Iowa Lakes men's golf team came out on top at the Grandview Viking Shootout by posting an even par 284 at Otter Creek Golf Club, which was good enough for a six shot victory over Waldorf University in a ten team field. The Lakers were led by freshman Joey Murphy who came in with a three under par 68, which was also good enough for co-medalist with former DMACC Bear Parker Davidson of Grandview University.
Iowa Lakes men's golf coach Jarvis Weber had this to say when asked about his teams' performances: "I think the guys had heard enough of me praising the women's team for their victory at Mason City last week, so they decided to bring home a victory of their own, and they did it with the lowest team round and lowest individual round that I have personally coached in my young career. It was great to see them come into a tournament with a goal and go get it. This team has a lot of depth and talent, which showed with 8 players posting 76 or lower and three posting even par or lower. Our JV squad was able to turn in a very good 298, which by itself is an impressive round. Today was a great day to see our guys come out on top and to get to see their hard work pay off with some hardware."
Rounding out the varsity scores were Morgan Edwards and Aaron James, each with even par 71, Cameron Maxwell with a 74, and Carlton Rahn with an 82. The Iowa Lakes JV posted a team score of 298, which was good enough for a tie for 5th with Mount Mercy University. The JV roster consisted of Nick Revering with a 73, Trace Jacobson with a 74, Luke Sladek with a 75, Addison Bahr with a 76, and Nolan King with an 82.
The Iowa Lakes men's golf team has a week to prepare with the Region XI Fall Preview at Veenker Memorial Golf Course on September 23rd and 24th in Ames, Iowa.
