Four Iowa Lakes Women’s Basketball Members Selected to All-Region Teams

Four Iowa Lakes Community College women's basketball athletes were named to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division II Women's Basketball All-Region teams.

Breanna Wendland and Shareece Smith were both named to the ICCAC All-Region 1st team, Samantha Hagedorn earned 2nd team All-Region honors, and Safiyer Coleman earned 3rd team All-Region honors.

Breanna Wendland, a freshman from Richfield, MN led the team in scoring this year. Wendland averaged 17.7 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game.  Wendland was 3rd overall in the conference in points per game and field goal percentage. Wendland led the team in field goal percentage shooting 48.9% on the season.

"Bre made everyone around her better. She is very tough to guard as she can get to the rim and can pull-up. Her ability to run the floor and make things happen in transition really elevated our play," commented Head Coach Ashley Martin.

Shareece Smith, a freshman from Fort Dodge, IA, was second on the team in scoring and led the team in rebounds this year by averaging 14.2 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game. Smith was 4th overall in the conference with rebounds per game.

"Shareece was the energizer bunny of the team.  She is a hard-nosed defender that caused a lot of problems for teams. She could get to the rim anytime she wanted and was very good at distributing and putting her teammates in positions to be successful," commented Head Coach Ashley Martin.

Samantha Hagedorn, a freshman from Bancroft, IA, averaged 12.9 points per game while shooting 31.7 percent from behind the arc. Hagedorn shot 34.6 percent from the field and averaged 4.5 rebounds per game.

"Sam stretched the defense with her ability to shoot from the outside. Sam grew as a defender all year," commented Head Coach Ashley Martin.

Safiyer Coleman, a freshman from Denver, CO, averaged 8.8 points per game and 5.8 rebounds per game. Coleman shot 44.2% from the field.

"Sassy improved so much this season. Sassy gave us a presence on the block and always made something happen on the floor. Her length really caused issues for opponents," commented Head Coach Ashley Martin.

The Laker women ended their season with an overall record of 21-10 and 9-7 record in conference.
