Iowa Lakes Takes 4th at CSM/MU Spring Invitational
The Iowa Lakes women's golf team was back in action on Tuesday, April 2nd at the College of St. Mary/Midland University Spring Invitational in Fremont, Nebraska. The tournament was reformatted to have all 36 holes take place at the Fremont Golf Club with poor weather and playing conditions forecasted for the second day. Iowa Lakes posted a team score of 715 with two round splits of 367 and 348, twenty shots behind tournament champion Briar Cliff University at 695.
"Today was a very good step forward for our team. We needed a good, long day of tournament golf to get us closer to top form and I think the ladies did just that today" said Coach Weber when asked about the way his team performed. "We still have a long way to go to be where we want to be, but we are getting better and better every single day. Brooks National is finally open, so when we get back we will really be able to fine tune some of the feel shots that we have been having an issue with."
"Abby and Alexia did a great job leading us this week, but the true strength of this team is going to be our depth. Any given tournament we could have a new scoring leader and that is a very nice problem to have! We will get in a good weeks worth of practice and be ready for our trip down to Lincoln for the Doane Spring Invite."
The Lakers will hit the road next Wednesday to play at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club in Lincoln, Nebraska to play in the Doane Spring Invitational and then quickly turn around and compete down at the Fort Dodge Spring Invite hosted by Iowa Central Community College on April 14th and 15th.
