With the 2021 season just a couple weeks away, Iowa Lakes Baseball is eager to share the returning sophomores to the Lakes team.

The 2021 sophomore class features 10 players from multiple areas of the world, including their grit, with an addition of six transfer students. The Iowa Lakes team entails high-caliber offence, defense, and pitchers. The ceiling is high throughout this program, with these sophomores elevating our players' drive.

Dean Bedell—C/RHH

Dean has shown us he is not playing around this year and he has shown this by earning the respect of not only the pitching staff but his peers, to the point that he has been nominated as a team captain. As a catcher and leader on this team, he has made strides towards being an outstanding athlete and will be one to watch out for this season.

Logan Ferguson—LHP

Logan is one of the grittiest guys we have here this season. After building up more and more stamina and becoming more of an athlete, Logan will be a great starter to long-relief guy for us. His demeanor says it all, he is driven towards being the best.

Jimmy Mapakou—OF/RHH

Jimmy is an outstanding athlete and runner, he will truly be a valuable asset to our success this season, not only on the defensive side but in the box. He will be a big contribution to our team. He is a hard-nose player who has a bright future ahead of him.

Jacob Gilbert—RHP

As a pitcher, Jacob Gilbert will be one of our most reliable starters. He is very athletic and quick to the plate and can keep batters guessing and on their toes. Jacob has made a lot of strides to get stronger and grow his knowledge and will be one of the hardest workers on the bump for us this year.

Andrew Eskens—INF/RHH

Andrew has a great baseball IQ and plays the game the right way. A very physical and strong player. There is no doubt in our minds that Andrew can be a dominant player. We see him as a player that leads through his actions and abilities in between the chalk lines. Andrew will be a tough out and even tougher defender.

Mark Thornhill—INF/RHH

Mark has had his difficulties throughout his span here, yet has made a complete 180. He is one of the greatest kids in our program and will play one of the biggest roles through our team this year. Mark has a good head between his shoulders and has the athleticism to play anywhere on the field. He has a bright future, and we believe he will do big and great things for us.

Noah Murphy-Sealy—INF/RHH

Noah is the most dedicated and hardworking individual we have here in our program. He bust his tail of day-in and out and has really shown that he will not backdown. He is a warrior, with a big and athletic frame. Noah will benefit our team by being the force that drives our guys to keep their heads up and to never give up. We are excited to see his success this year.

Cory Knight—RHP

Cory is an outstanding individual, on and off the field. On the mound, he will be one guy we that will be used heavily in our rotation this year. He has a calm and focused demeanor, which is hard to break. There will be no hesitations to put the ball in his hands.

Caden White—C/RHH

Caden White is one of the most hardworking catchers we have in our program. He is one guy that will be tough to take out of a lineup, because of his baseball IQ and effectiveness to get on base. Behind the plate he has shown multiple improvements with his movements and is a guy who goes out and shows you what he can prove.

Chase Dornfeld—RHP

Chase Dornfeld is a fighter who has shown our pitching staff what it means to dominate the mound. After dropping his arm to a 1/4 slot, Chase can not only gas it up but the effectiveness of movement to keep batters guessing. Because of his actions both on and off the field, Chase has earned the respect and devotion of our guys, as he too has been nominated and voted as a team captain.

We have also added additional sophomores who have transferred in for the opportunity to play this spring. We are excited to have the ability to play this year.
