Iowa Lakes Men’s Basketball Prepares for Region Tournament

The #10 ranked Lakers will be hosting the Tritons of Iowa Central in the first round of the ICCAC DII Region XI tournament Tuesday, April 6th at 7:00 pm. Iowa Lakes Men's Basketball has earned the number 2 seed in the tournament and Iowa Central has earned the 7th seed.

The Lakers finished the regular season with a record of 15-7. The leading scorer for the Lakers is Xzavier Jones, who is averaging 13.8 ppg and 7.7 rebounds per game. The Lakers have a balanced attack with the rest of the starting lineup, Dillion Carlson, Ryan Hall, Kevin Cook, and Caleb Johnson, all averaging 12 points per game. Cook and Jones have also made a statement on the boards this season with Cook ranked #14 in total rebounds (170) on the season and Jones ranked #15 in total rebounds with 169.

The Lakers are looking to make more history this season as they have already surpassed 1,000 programs wins. The last time Iowa Lakes Men's Basketball has been to the National Tournament was in 2013 and came close in 2014 and 2016 before losing in the regional final.

Head Coach Troy Larson touched on his thoughts going into the tournament by saying, "We're really excited about the tournament. Obviously, our goal at the beginning of the year was to win the league but finishing second in this tough of league is a good accomplishment for our young men and our program. We have been here a lot in the past, won it a couple times, been third a couple times so we are kind of used to being the top couple of teams, but the advantage of doing that is we get two home games if we keep winning. We are just really concentrated on Iowa Central and getting prepared for them."

The conference tournament will be structured differently this year. This year Region XI will have two representatives at the National Tournament instead of one. As the regular season champion DMACC will be representing Region XI at the National Tournament. The winner of the Region XI tournament will also earn a spot at the National Tournament. If DMACC wins the Region XI Tournament, the runner-up of the Region XI Tournament will be the Region XI-B Champion and earn a spot at the National Tournament.
