The 2022-2023 Iowa Lakes Men's Basketball team is looking to pick up right where they left off last year. The Lakers are coming off another outstanding season during the 2021-2022 year where they finished with a record of 21-10.
The Lakers open the season ranked #14 in the NJCAA preseason rankings. For the 2022-2023 season the Lakers have five returning players equipped with a variety of skills that can help lead to the team's success.
"We have been blessed over the last 10 years to have really good group of guys who sacrifice for the good of the team. This group fits that mold as well. We have good size and athletic ability so we should be able to defend and rebound," commented Coach Troy Larson.
Anthony Holden, a 6'5" sophomore from Lees Summit, MO. He finished off last season averaging 7.8 points per game with a field goal percentage of 49.7% and averaging 3.2 rebounds. Jeremiah Burke, also a returner standing at 6'7" from Milwaukee, WI, averaged 8.2 points per game, with a field goal percentage of 53.3%, averaging 5.4 rebounds. Another returner Ozzie Meiborg, a 6'1" sophomore from Cedar Rapids, IA averaging 5.5 points per game with a field goal percentage of 33.5%. Isaiah Youngquist, returning sophomore who brings consistent defense and decision making to the floor.
The Lakers will open conference play before the new year as they play December 3rd at home against Iowa Central. The Lakers were picked to finish 3rd in the ICCAC Conference.
This season marks Head Coach Troy Larson's 16th season with the men's basketball program. His record as head coach stands at 321 – 151, averaging 20 wins per season.
The Lakers are looking forward to playing their first game on November 4th against Independence Community College at the Indian Hills Classic in Indian Hills, Iowa. The Lakers have their first home game on November 7th when they host Dordt JV at 7:30pm.
