Matheason Ties 18-Hole School Record

The Iowa Lakes Men's record for the lowest 18-hole round has been tied or broken a number of times over the years. Jeff Soper (2004) and Scott Benson (2009 x2) shared the record with rounds of 68. In 2015, Matt Bennett posted three rounds that either tied or broke the previous record held by Soper and Benson. Bennett carded rounds of 68,67, and 66 during his impressive freshman campaign. Bennett's round of 66 sat alone at the top until September 9th, 2025. This fall, Josh Matheason posted a bogey-free 66 at Highland Park Golf Course in Mason City, Iowa. Matheason is the first player to reach Bennett's record over the 10-year span.

"I'm really proud of Josh and happy to acknowledge his big accomplishment! Being from the same town, I've seen the hours Josh has put into his game over his career. From my perspective, he's gone from the 'little kid who's always on the course', to winning several men's open events, and now sharing a record at Iowa Lakes. I love seeing his hard work come to fruition. I was there to witness one of the more impressive par saves to keep this record round alive. He pulled driver on hole 16, blocked it right, and had to take relief from the native grass (played as a penalty area). From his drop, he stuffed a wedge (from roughly 100 yards) inside of 10 feet, and drained the putt. In golf, we pursue perfection knowing that it is impossible. Josh scared perfection with his performance," said Coach Myers.
