Iowa Lakes Community College softball player, Eliya Johnson, was honored by the Iowa Community College Athletic Association for her outstanding performance in the circle this past week. Johnson is receiving her first Pitcher of the Week award this year. This award was given to Johnson based on her play between April 11th-17th when the Lakers went 4-0 against Division I Marshalltown Community College.
"I am honored to receive athlete of the week. I could not have done this without the help of my teammates and coaches." Commented Johnson.
Johnson, a sophomore from Coon Rapids, Minnesota, was dominate in the circle for the Lakers last week. Johnson earned herself two more wins, pitching thirteen innings over the weekend. She allowed four earned runs on ten hits, while walking four and striking out ten batters. Johnson is currently top ten in the conference for ERA (3.30), strikeouts (65), innings pitched (80.2), and wins (8).
Coach King had this to say, "Eliya Johnson definitely deserves this award. She has been pitching extremely well all season and it is great to see her be recognized for this. Her performance on the mound is key for this team's success during this post season. We are excited to see what she can do again this week!"
