Iowa Lakes Community College softball player, Eliya Johnson, has been honored for the second week in a row by the Iowa Community College Athletic Association for her outstanding performance in the circle this past week. This award was given to Johnson based on her play April 18th-24th when the Lakers went 6-0.
"I am very honored to be receiving this award again. Our program and conference is filled with elite pitchers and to have won this award two times is very humbling. I thank my teammates for pushing me to be better every day and for always having my back when I pitch. They have been the reason that I am successful in the circle. I cannot wait to see what this team can accomplish in the Regional Tournament," commented Johnson.
Johnson, a sophomore from Coon Rapids, Minnesota continued her dominance in the circle this past week. Johnson picked up three more wins, where she allowed zero earned runs in 14.2 innings pitched. She allowed just three hits and struck out 24 batters. Johnson is top five in the conference for wins (11), innings pitched (95.1), and strikeouts (89). She is sixth in the conference in ERA (2.79).
Johnson's best game came on Saturday, March 23rd, against Ellsworth Community College. She pitched her first collegiate no-hitter, where she allowed zero earned runs. She faced just 18 batters in the game and struck out 10 of them.
Coach King had this to say, "I am very proud of Eliya for winning her second in a row ICCAC Pitcher of the Week award. All of the work she has put in to improve is paying off. Her and the team are starting to really shine both offensively and defensively as we get closer to the post-season. I am expecting some great things from her and her teammates in the next couple of weeks."
