Iowa Lakes Community College softball player, Alyssa Thorson, was awarded the Iowa Community College Athletic Association Player of the Week award. This was awarded to Thorson based on her performance between April 25th and May 1st when the Lakers went 4-0.
During the week, Thorson went 8-12 giving her a .666 batting average. She recorded one grand slam and four doubles. Thorson drove in eleven of her teammates while crossing the plate six times herself. She is currently eleventh in the conference in batting average (.446) and fifth in stolen bases (23). Thorson has not been caught stealing one time this year.
"I am beyond grateful for this award," commented Thorson. "I would like to thank my teammates and coaches; if it weren't for them I wouldn't be receiving this award. They challenge me to be at my best, not just as a softball player, but as a person too."
Thorson's best game of the week came against North Iowa Area Community College. During the game, she went 3-3 with two doubles. She had four runs batted in and two runs scored in the game. Thorson also hit her first career grand slam last week, which was also the homerun to break the 2016 team single-season homerun record.
"Alyssa Thorson is a very special young lady. She has been working extremely hard all season and has really blossomed in the nine spot in the lineup. She does a tremendous job producing and putting up big numbers for us in that position. I am very proud of her for receiving this award and cannot wait to see what her and her teammates can accomplish at the regional tournament," commented Coach King.
