Iowa Lakes Community College softball team had seven student-athletes that were named to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division II Softball All-Region teams.
Lexi Chase, pitcher, Bryn Bohmann, infield, Eliya Johnson, infield, and Alyssa Thorson, outfield, were all named to the ICCAC All-Region 1st team. Allie McCabe, catcher, and Kaitlin Roundy, infield, were both selected to the ICCAC All-Region 2nd team. Amanda Franke, outfield, and MacKenna Jones, pitcher, were named to the ICCAC All-Region honorable mention team.
In the circle, Chase, a sophomore, appeared in 25 games. She earned an 18-4 record on the season. She is currently first in the conference in wins (18), second in ERA (1.77), third in saves (2), fourth in strikeouts (134), fifth in innings pitched (118.1), and eighth in appearances (25). In addition, Chase also dominated in the batter's box. She finished the year with a .529 batting average (third in conference), a .624 on-base percentage (second in conference), and a .876 slugging percentage (sixth in conference). Chase accumulated 81 hits (fourth in conference), including 18 doubles (third in conference), 1 triple, and 11 homeruns. Chase also was second in the conference for runs scored (77) and strikeouts (4). She was the only player to play in all 51 games for the Lakers on the season. Because of her strong play, Chase was awarded ICCAC Pitcher of the Week two times, as well as NJCAA Pitcher of the Week one time.
Bohmann, a freshman, finished the year with a .460 batting average (ninth in conference), a .530 on-base percentage (eighth in conference), and a 1.018 slugging percentage (third in conference). She had 52 hits, including 12 doubles and 17 homeruns (third in conference). Bohmann had 48 runs scored and 54 runs batted in. For her efforts, she was selected as the ICCAC Player of the Week two times and NJCAA Player of the Week one time.
Johnson, a sophomore finished the year with a .394 batting average, a .506 on-base percentage, and a .795 slugging percentage (tenth in conference). She had 49 hits on the season, including 8 doubles and 16 homeruns (fourth in conference). Johnson also had a tremendous season in the circle with a record of 13-7. She had a 2.95 ERA in 109.1 innings pitched, where she struck out 108 batters. Johnson played in 48 games for the Lakers this past season. She was named ICCAC Pitcher of the Week for two consecutive weeks this past season.
Thorson, a freshman, played in 50 games for the Lakers. She finished the season with a .454 batting average (tenth in conference), with a .507 on-base percentage. Thorson had 59 hits, including 11 doubles and six homeruns. She scored 49 times and drove in 37 of her teammates. Thorson was also a perfect 25-25 on stolen bases. She also finished the year with a .964 fielding percentage with many diving catches in center field. For her efforts, Thorson was named ICCAC Player of the Week one time this past season.
McCabe, a sophomore, played in 48 games for the Lakers this year. She batted .354 with a .441 on-base percentage, and a .646 slugging percentage. She had 45 hits, including 13 doubles and 8 homeruns. McCabe scored 43 times and had 37 runs batted in. Defensively, she had a .995 fielding percentage and threw out 8 of 19 runners that attempted.
Roundy, a sophomore, finished the season with a .346 batting average and a .421 on-base percentage. She had 37 hits, including 5 doubles and 2 homeruns. Defensively, she had a.990 fielding percentage with just 2 errors in 200 total chances on the season.
Jones, a freshman, was a perfect 4-0 on the season. She appeared in 7 games and pitched in 49.1 innings. She had a 4.26 ERA with 56 strikeouts and 30 earned runs. In the batter's box, Jones also shined with a .371 batting average. She had 36 total hits with 9 doubles and 6 homeruns. She also drove in 32 of her teammates.
Franke, a sophomore, played in 49 games for the Lakers. She finished the season with a .327 batting average and a .444 on-base percentage. She had 36 hits on the year, including 10 doubles and 4 homeruns. She scored 42 times and swiped 18 bases. She was thrown out just one time on the season.
"These seven athletes are very deserving of these awards. This conference has many strong players and to be titled an all-region player is a tremendous honor for them. I am very excited that they were recognized by fellow coaches for their hard work and passion for the game of softball. Their hard work and the work of their teammates made these awards possible for them," commented Coach King.
The Lakers ended their season with an overall record of 38-12 and a 17-7 record in conference.
