Iowa Lakes Community College softball player, Alyssa Thorson, was selected as a National Fastpitch Coaches Association NJCAA Golden Glove recipient.  The recipients for this award were selected by the NFCA's NJCAA Division I & II All-America Committees. The group utilized fielding statistics and school-submitted video to closely examine finalists and select the winners at every defensive position.

Thorson had this to say, "I am thankful to be receiving this award. I am grateful I got the chance to play the game I love with the people I love at Iowa Lakes. My teammates and coaches made me feel so comfortable not only on the field but in everyday life."

Thorson had a monster year for the Lakers, already scoring ICCAC First Team All-Region, NFCA First Team All-Region, and NFCA Second Team All-American selections. She has also received numerous academic awards both within the conference and nationally.

"Alyssa is one of the best outfielders that I have ever seen play the game of softball. She gets elite level reads on balls off the bat and is not scared to layout for a ball or run into a fence. In just one game this season, I witnessed Alyssa rob three homeruns. Even better, she is a humble player that oozes passion when she plays. She is a tremendous role-model for not only the youth, but also her peers. She is going to continue to get better and better because of her mindset," commented Coach King.

Defensively, Thorson was a leader for the Lakers. She roamed the outfield in centerfield and made many SportCenter Top 10 worthy plays. Thorson finished the season with a .988 fielding percentage, with just one error and three outfield assists. She was also selected as the ICCAC Defensive Player of the Year this past season.
