The Iowa Lakes Community College Softball team got a big win over Division I Polk State College 4-1. They then beat Oakland Community College 7-3. The Lakers are now 12-2 on the season.
GAME 1: 4 (ILCC), 1 (PSC)
The Lakers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first. Kaitlyn DuChateau reached on an error to start the inning before Korilynn Christians launched a two-run home run to right field to give Iowa Lakes an early 2–0 advantage. The Lakers continued to apply pressure as Addison Wheeler later doubled and both Gracie Knobloch and Karlee Akers worked walks to put runners on base.
Iowa Lakes extended its lead in the second inning when Charli Abernathy singled and then stole second. She eventually came around to score after Christians hit a sacrifice fly, pushing the lead to 3–0.
Polk State broke through in the fourth inning, using back-to-back singles to put runners on base before an RBI single brought home a run to cut the Lakers' lead to 3–1.
The Lakers answered in the bottom of the sixth inning. Christians started the rally with a single before Wheeler delivered again, ripping a double to center field to bring Christians home and extend the lead to 4–1.
Kvigne was dominant in the circle throughout the game, recording multiple strikeouts and limiting the Eagles' offense. The Lakers' defense also stepped up with several key plays, including a caught stealing by Akers and strong infield work from Wheeler and Enter.
Polk State attempted to mount a late rally in the seventh inning with a pair of singles, but the Lakers' defense held firm to close out the game and secure the 4–1 victory.
Korilynn Christians was the leader for the Lakers, going 2-4 with three runs batted in and two runs scored. Addison Wheeler added two doubles with a run batted in. Katie Kvigne continued her perfect season, throwing seven innings. She allowed one earned run on seven hits and three walks, while striking out six.
GAME 2: 7 (ILCC), 3 (OCC)
The Lakers wasted no time taking control of the game, erupting for five runs in the top of the first inning. DuChateau reached base to start the rally before Christians delivered an RBI triple to open the scoring. Wheeler followed with an RBI double to extend the lead, and the Lakers continued to apply pressure with hits from Akers and Kvigne. Kvigne's two-run double highlighted the inning as Iowa Lakes built a commanding 5–0 advantage.
Oakland Community College got on the board in the second inning, taking advantage of a double and aggressive baserunning to cut into the lead.
The Lakers added to their advantage in the fourth inning. Christians singled and later scored on a Knobloch single and walks from Marrissa Miller and Kvigne. Oakland responded in the bottom half of the fifth inning with a two-run home run, trimming the deficit to 6–2.
However, the Lakers answered again in the fifth inning when DuChateau came around to score. She reached on a single and then advanced on a single from Christians. Wheeler loaded the bases on an Oakland error. Knobloch was then hit by a pitch to give the Lakers a 7-3 lead.
Oakland threatened late in the seventh inning, scoring one run on a double and single.
Morgan Fine got the win, throwing 4.2 innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out two. Macy Pickett threw 2.1 innings in relief. Pickett allowed one earned run on three hits and one walk. Korilynn Christians again led the Lakers offense, going 3-5 with a triple, two runs scored, and an RBI. Gracie Knobloch was 2-3 with a walk and hit by pitch. Katie Kvigne added three RBIs for the Lakers.
The Lakers will continue their spring games on Sunday, March 8th. They will take on Mid Michigan College at 1:00 PM central time and Rochester Community and Technical College at 3:15 PM central time.
