Iowa Lakes Earns Multiple Podium Finishes at Auggie Invite

 

The Iowa Lakes Community College wrestling team posted several strong performances at the Auggie Invite, highlighted by podium finishes at 133, 141, 157, and 174 pounds. The Lakers' young roster continued to show development and competitiveness against a deep field. 
"Our guys competed hard and earned some important podium finishes," said Head Coach Corey Meyer. "We're seeing growth every week, especially from our freshmen. The progress is there, and performances like today show we're headed in the right direction."

 Eatman Takes 5th at 133 lbs

Blake Eatman secured a 5th-place finish, opening with a tight 6-5 win in the quarterfinals and closing his day with a convincing 10-3 victory over Antonio Martinez (Sioux Falls) in the placement match. 

McDonald Finishes Runner-Up

Logan McDonald turned in the Lakers' top performance with a 2nd-place finish at 141 pounds.

After wins by decision and a dominant 17-1 tech fall, McDonald advanced to the finals before finishing as tournament runner-up. 

Costabilo Earns 4th at 157lbs 

Vinny Costabilo placed 4th, earning a quarterfinal win and pushing the semifinal to sudden victory before the day finished. 

Hammes Places 3rd at 174 lbs 

Ben Hammes battled through the bracket to finish 3rd at 174 pounds, picking up a medical forfeit victory to secure his podium spot

Spears takes 5th at 197lbs

Damien Spears earned a 5th-place finish at 197 pounds. Spears opened with a strong 6-2 win and closed out the day with a solid 13-7 decision in the placement match
