Iowa Lakes Community College Wrestling is excited to announce that its upcoming home dual against Hawkeye Community College will be celebrated as Youth Wrestling Night, highlighting the next generation of the sport and strengthening the connection between college wrestling and local youth programs.The night will feature matchups between nationally ranked programs on both the men's and women's sides. The Iowa Lakes men's team enters ranked No. 23 in the country, while Hawkeye Community College is ranked No. 24. On the women's side, the Hawkeye women's team is ranked No. 6 nationally, with Iowa Lakes women checking in at No. 10, setting the stage for an exciting and competitive evening of wrestling. As part of the event, a handful of youth exhibition matches will take place between the men's and women's duals, giving young wrestlers the opportunity to compete on a college mat and in front of a home crowd. The youth matches will showcase local talent and provide an unforgettable experience for participating athletes and their families.
"Youth Wrestling Night is about celebrating the growth of wrestling in our communities angiving young athletes something to aspire to," said the Iowa Lakes head coach. "Having them compete in between our men's and women's duals creates a great atmosphere and shows them what college wrestling is all about." said Men's Wrestling Head Coach Corey Meyer
The event also holds special meaning for the Iowa Lakes women's wrestling program."Youth Wrestling Night is especially meaningful for our women's program," said the Iowa Lakes women's wrestling head coach. "Seeing young girls and boys compete in the same space as our athletes helps normalize opportunities in wrestling for everyone. We hope these youth matches inspire them to stay involved in the sport and dream big about what's possible." said Corey Muniz, head coach of the Women's Wrestling program.
