Lakers win home opener 3-0
Iowa Lakes Community College earned a convincing 3-0 victory over Western Nebraska Community College in their home season opener.

In their third match of the year, the #18-ranked Iowa Lakes Lakers faced off against a Western Nebraska team still searching for their first win (0-2). The Lakers entered the game with a 1-1 record.

The first half was a tactical battle, with both teams working to figure each other out. Despite Iowa Lakes creating four strong chances and Western Nebraska one, neither team could find the back of the net, and the score remained 0-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Iowa Lakes turned up the pressure with a high press. Local high school standout Maddy Waterhouse scored her first collegiate goal to break the deadlock. Just a few minutes later, Waterhouse provided an excellent assist to sophomore Stina Mathews, who doubled the lead to 2-0. The game remained at that score for much of the half, with a critical defensive play by Claudia Beaujon preventing Western Nebraska from closing the gap. Late in the match, freshman Zoe Lawrence added a third goal, sealing the 3-0 win for the Lakers.

Head Coach Ogitchida commented, "This is how we want to play. Western Nebraska played great, and I'm proud of how we came out of the locker room in the second half. We really put them under pressure and gained control of the game. It's a great result for us."

The Iowa Lakes Women's Soccer team will next face #14-ranked St. Louis Community College on Sunday at 10:00 AM, again in Spencer.
