Lakers battle but can't overcome early second-half surge

September 10, 2025 – Ottumwa, IA — Iowa Lakes Community College dropped a tough road matchup Wednesday, falling 4–0 to Indian Hills Community College at the IHCC Soccer Complex.

Indian Hills struck first in the 28th minute, when Mayo Kawashima converted off a pass from Meghan Lorjuste. The Warriors carried that 1–0 advantage into halftime before breaking the game open early in the second half.

IHCC's Ella Forsyth scored just 90 seconds after the restart to double the lead, followed five minutes later by a goal from Nana Tanikawa. Forsyth capped her two-goal performance in the 79th minute, assisted by Kawashima, sealing the 4–0 result.

Despite the scoreline, the Lakers showed fight throughout. Goalkeeper Holly Poole faced 21 shots, making nine saves across 90 minutes. Iowa Lakes managed five shots of their own, with Maddy Waterhouse putting both of the team's shots on goal.

Both teams had opportunities from set pieces, with Iowa Lakes earning four corner kicks to Indian Hills' five. The Lakers committed seven fouls compared to six for the Warriors.

"This was a tough one," said head coach Mukwa Ogitchida. "We could not affect the game like we have in the past. It will be so important that we bounce back for this as we have three big games next week."

With the loss, Iowa Lakes moves to 3–3 overall, while Indian Hills improves to 5–1. The Lakers will have a chance to regroup on Monday in a scrimmage against Dordt University JV, before returning to regular-season play in what will be a pivotal stretch.
