Iowa Lakes Rallies to Defeat Southeastern 3–1 at Home

SPENCER, Iowa – The Iowa Lakes women's soccer team battled back from an early second-half deficit to earn a 3–1 victory over Southeastern Community College on Saturday afternoon.

Southeastern opened the scoring in the 48th minute when Servane Veyrac netted an unassisted goal to put the visitors ahead 1–0. The Lakers answered quickly, leveling the match in the 58th minute as Zoe Lawrence finished off a pass from Emma Fournie.

Momentum shifted firmly in Iowa Lakes' favor just two minutes later when Chanell Makusu gave the Lakers a 2–1 advantage, assisted by Fournie and Stina Mathews. Makusu struck again in the 71st minute, this time off a feed from Ana Zamorano, to secure the 3–1 win.

The match featured only one caution, issued to Southeastern's goalkeeper in the 65th minute.

Southeastern set up in a disciplined low block, a tactic Iowa Lakes had not yet faced this season. Despite the challenge and an early scare when SCC scored first, the Lakers broke through with patience and determination.

The game was played under 78°F conditions with a steady 9 mph north wind, providing a warm but comfortable setting for fans and players.

Head Coach Mukwa Ogitchida credited the opponent while praising his team's response:

"Full credit to Southeastern and their coaches, we were taken by surprise by the tactics. It got scary when they scored first. It was nice to see my team battle back. We will have to learn from this as we move on to the next game."

With the victory, Iowa Lakes improves to 6-3-1 on the season. The Lakers return to action Wednesday on the road against Northeast Community College.
