PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Chanell Makusu

This week's Player of the Week goes to sophomore Chanell Makusu, who proved she can make an impact anywhere on the field. Normally a steady and hard-working right back, Chanell showed her versatility in Saturday's 3–1 win over Southeastern. With the Lakers needing a spark, she was moved up to the No. 9 role — and she delivered in a big way, scoring two goals in just 27 minutes to lead the comeback.

Combined with her assist earlier in the week against Central, Chanell finished with two goals and one assist in back-to-back wins.

A Berlin native, Chanell stayed in the U.S. over the summer to play with the Minnesota Dutch Lions, further sharpening her game. Her elite athleticism stands out every time she's on the pitch, but what's most exciting is how her confidence is growing. With each match, she's developing her own style of play and learning just how big an influence she can have on a game.

Despite opportunities to transfer elsewhere, Chanell chose to stay with Iowa Lakes — and that decision is paying off. Already with 1 goal and 1 assist from her usual defensive position, and now showing she can score up top as well, she's becoming a true two-way threat. With her work ethic and potential, there's no doubt she'll have Division I options waiting for her after this season.
