Three Lakers Grab All Region Awards

Three Iowa Lakes Community College women's volleyball athletes were named to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Region XI Division II Women's Volleyball All-Region teams.

Lily Kunselman received Third Team All Region XI Honors while Lorin Turkdogan and Kenzie Lee both received Region XI Honorable Mention Awards.

Lily ended the season with 237 kills with 1.73 KPS while hitting .074. She also had 69 Service Aces and 937 Receptions leading the conference in both. She had 401 digs at a pace of 2.93 per set and 11 blocks on the season. She was in the top 30 in the conference in multiple stats while leading in others. She also Led or was second on our team in many categories. Lily's bests this year were a 15 kill performance against SWCC on September 20th, Hitting percentage of .429 in our first match of the year against MATC on August 23rd, 6 Aces two times once against Minnesota West and once against Century, and 30 digs against Southeastern on October 23rd. Lily had four double doubles and 10 other matches where she just fell short of that mark.

"Lily came in with a really high IQ of the game and pushed herself all year to use that. Coming in at 5'5" she had a lot of challenges to face in the front row but worked hard to be an efficient hitter for us, while being part of our strong back court and passing game. Lily's serve is the thing that set her apart scoring loads of points both directly and with the ability to take teams out of system. Lily had a very strong freshman campaign and we are excited to see what her Sophomore season brings," commented Head Coach Nick Erdman.

Lorin ended the season with 70 assists, 21 service aces, 528 receptions and 610 digs at a rate of 4.55 digs per set; 5th in our conference and 1st on our team. Lorin's best was a 33 dig match against Dakota State, she also had over 20 digs 5 other times against Century, Spoon River, Southeastern, Highland (KS) and DMACC.

"Lorin was one of the best Libero's in the league and was a staple in our backcourt. She quickly adapted to being vocal in the college game and working to have as much range as possible. There was many a match she left bruised because of her effort to keep the play alive. She also had a great freshman season and we are excited to see what comes of her Sophomore season," commented Head Coach Nick Erdman.

Kenzie ended her season with 291 kills, 2.29 per set which led our team, while hitting .131, she also had 93 digs, and 34 block assists. Kenzie had a 20 kill game against Concordia College, her best hitting percetange was .400 against Hawkeye, Against Northeast and Central (Columbus) she had 9 digs. Kenzie had double digit kills in 13 matches this season and consistently led the attack. She also earned player of the week once this season for the ICCAC.

"Kenzie has had two strong years here at Iowa Lakes. Her stat output last year did not lead the team but only because she spent a month battling an injury. She has consistently put balls away for us especially this season. She was the lady we were going to feed the ball to late down the stretch. Kenzie has done a lot for the program both as a player and as a person in her two years here and we thank her greatly for those contributions. We are excited to see her in her future as she heads to Kansas State to continue her education," commented Head Coach Nick Erdman.

The Lakers ended their season with an overall record of 11-28 and 4-7 in conference. This got them an 8th place finish and brought them back to the Region XI tournament.

We had great contributions from all 11 women on the team and will have a bittersweet feeling seeing our Sophomores transfer on knowing all the contributions they have brought. We are excited to see where their journies head in their academic and athletic careers. We also are very excited to build off of our returners and return next fall looking to continue to climb the ladder.
