August 24, 2025, | Rockford, Ill. – The Iowa Lakes volleyball team opened its 2025 campaign with a strong showing at the Rockford Tournament, finishing 2-2 on the weekend.
The Lakers picked up wins over Joliet Junior College (3-2) and South Suburban College (3-1), showcasing depth and resilience in their first action of the season. Despite dropping matches against Lake Michigan College (3-0) and Rochester Community and Technical College (3-1), Head Coach Taylor Menzies was encouraged by the team's effort and early-season growth.
"We saw a lot of positives this weekend," said Coach Menzies. "Our players competed hard, adjusted well in new lineups, and we learned valuable lessons that will help us as the season progresses. Coming away with two wins is a great foundation to build on."
Throughout the weekend, the Lakers were led offensively by Kajsa Bates, who hit .378 on the weekend, along with Lorin Turkdogan, who anchored the defense with consistent play in the back row, and tallied 76 digs (4.47 per set). The Lakers also showed strength at the net, finishing with 19 total blocks.
The Lakers will return to action on Monday, August 25th, when they travel to La Crosse, Wisconsin, to play Western Technical College and No. 23 Milwaukee Area Technical College, before opening at home on Wednesday, August 27th, against No. 12 Iowa Central Community College.
