Iowa Lakes Outlasts Western Tech, Falls in Five to No. 23 MATC

August 25, 2025 | La Crosse, Wis. – The Iowa Lakes volleyball team battled through two five-set matches on Monday, splitting their tri-match at Western Technical College. The Lakers outlasted Western Tech in a five-set thriller before falling just short in another five-set contest against No. 23 Milwaukee Area Technical College.

In the opener, Iowa Lakes showed grit and resilience, rallying for a 3-2 victory over host Western Technical College. The Lakers executed well under pressure, closing out the deciding set behind timely kills and strong defense.

In their second match of the day, the Lakers pushed nationally ranked Milwaukee Area Technical College to the brink, ultimately falling 3-2 in another tightly contested battle. Head Coach Taylor Menzies praised the team's fight across both matches.

"Our players showed a lot of toughness today," said Coach Menzies. "Going five sets in both matches isn't easy, but we competed hard and proved we can play with anybody. These types of matches will make us stronger as the season goes on."

The Lakers also performed well in serve receive throughout the day, giving their offense opportunities to stay aggressive and extend rallies.

Iowa Lakes will return to action on Wednesday, August 27, when they host No. 12 Iowa Central Community College in their home opener at the Estherville campus.
