Lady Lakers storm the Luther Hill Open, finishing with four overall place winners and one champion out of Freshman standout Brooklyn Robinson!
The Lakers had an eventful weekend with many of the squad having competed in their first collegiate matches against highly skilled opponents from within the conference. The Lady Lakers had exceptional performances from Abigail Ji (7th Fresh/Soph Div.), Brenda Valenzuela (6th Varsity Div.), Delmaria Joseph (5th Varsity Div.), and Brooklyn Robinson (1st Varsity Div.).
The coaching staff at Iowa Lakes was extremely pleased specifically with the 235 lb. lineup that went and competed in Indianola this weekend.
"Hey they wrestled tough. It is always tough to go into the unknown but we battled hard and made an impressive impovement on last years tournament" Said Coach Corey Muniz. "Looking forward to taking the data we've collected back into the room and look to use this quick turn-around as another chance to measure our growth" he continued.
Assistant Coach Dalton Whitehall-Gilkes states "The girls simply came to compete; they knew that they weren't going to get an easy route to victory having to compete against four-year universities within the varsity bracket." Dalton continues with "they didn't complain, they didn't run, they didn't hide, they accepted the work in front of them, put their noses to the grindstone, and showed the rest of the country that Iowa Lakes has one of the best heavyweight programs in the country".
The Lakers travel to Forest City Iowa for the Waldorf Open this Saturday.
