The Lakers headed to U.S Bank Stadium on Friday to play Minnesota North College Mesabi Range in a double header. The Lakers came out strong in game 1 winning 16-5 over the Norsemen. Leading the offensive charge was sophomore Boyd Jones who went 3-4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Jones was also a weapon on the bases as he added 2 stolen bases to the day. Freshman Ayden Wells also was a threat at the plate going 3-4 with a double, triple, and an RBI. Sophomore Jace Embry tabulated 3 RBIs for the Lakers going 2-3 with a triple. Sophomore Ty Martin also saw success at the plate, earning 2 RBIs. On the defensive side for the Lakers, freshman Luke Holcomb got the start and the win on the mound throwing 3 innings and allowing 1 hit, 2 runs, 1 earned run, 3 walks and 9 strikeouts. Freshman Cole Mckinney and sophomore Reggie York both added to the strikeout count by adding 2 a piece.
In game 2 the Lakers offense started out a bit slower then game 1 going scoreless through the first 2 innings before busting out to a 5-0 lead in the 3rd inning and then adding 2 more runs in the 4th inning and the 6thinning, earning the 9-1 victory. Leading the offense in game 2 was sophomores Jace Embry (2 hits and an RBI), Boyd Jones (2 hits with a double), Blake Evans (2 hits and an RBI) and Ty Martin (2 hits). The Lakers had 8 stolen bases in game 2, led by Blake Evans with 3. On the defensive side, freshman Owen Glassburner earned the start and the win in game 2, throwing 4 innings and allowing 2 hits, 1 run, 1 earned run, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Freshman Joas Mercedes saw 1 inning and had 1 strikeout, Sophomore Kenryu Seimori had an inning of work with 2 strikeouts, and freshman Garrett Norick had 3 strikeouts and allowed 1 hit in an inning of work.
The Lakers earned the sweep of Mesabi Range and will be back on the field Saturday March 21st for a conference double header at Marshalltown CC, with the first pitch slated for 2:00 pm.
