Estherville, Iowa — January 21, 2026 — The Iowa Lakes Community College men's basketball team battled throughout but came up short in a 67–64 loss to #16 Kirkwood Community College on Wednesday night at the Iowa Lakes Gymnasium.
Iowa Lakes held a 27–26 lead at halftime before Kirkwood edged the Lakers 41–37 in the second half to secure the road win. The game remained a one-possession contest deep into the final minutes, with Iowa Lakes unable to convert on its last opportunities.
Lakers' Offensive Leaders
Sophomore guard Jermaine Freeman led Iowa Lakes with 19 points, including four three-pointers, while playing 35 minutes. Jorge Castro added 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting, and sophomore Steven Martinez finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Jack Wadlington contributed eight points and two assists, while Dominic Preiser added six points and seven rebounds.
Team Performance
Iowa Lakes shot 42.6 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from three-point range (8-of-23). The Lakers totaled 31 rebounds, recorded seven steals, and scored 18 points off turnovers. Kirkwood narrowly won the rebounding battle, 32–31.
Kirkwood was led by Richard Lindsey Jr. and Chris Coleman, who scored 13 points apiece.
