The Iowa Lakes men's soccer team has finished the regular season and will begin postseason play this Wednesday, October 27. Iowa Lakes finished the season as the 2nd seed so they will host the 3rd seeded Marshalltown in Spencer at 3:00 pm.
The Lakers ended the regular season with a record of 14-2-1 behind top seeded Iowa Western. The Lakers will be playing a familiar foe in Marshalltown, having already played twice this season. They beat Marshalltown in both meetings; the first game with a score of 3-2 and the second with a score of 4-1.
"Games against Marshalltown are always a battle. Just need to settle into the games early, keep the ball on the deck and be creative in the final 1/3," commented Coach MacRae.
The Lakers are led by Sophomore Logan Roach who has scored 7 goals this season, including 4 game winners from left back this season. Sophomore Leonardo Sexias has 7 goals, 5 assists, and 16 starts. The Lakers have had a good attack all year scoring 60 goals in 17 games for an average of 3.53 goals a game.
"We've been top 10 NJCAA D1 all season. You play all the games before for these moments. We are well prepared, just need to execute and perform well," commented Coach MacRae.
On the other side of the bracket #1 Iowa Western will host Indian Hills on Wednesday, October 27. The winner of that game will play the winner of Iowa Lakes and Marshalltown. The championship game will be held Sunday, October 31 at the highest remaining seed. The champion will then play in the Midwest District Tournament hosted by the Region 11 Champion. That winner will then advance to the NJCAA National Tournament November 15-20 at The Pat Hartley Complex in Tyler, TX. Teams also have the opportunity to earn an at-large bid to compete at the National Tournament.
