The Iowa Lakes women's basketball team opened conference play with a strong 84–74 road victory over Central Community College on Tuesday night in Columbus, Nebraska. The Lakers led 39–34 at halftime.
Iowa Lakes showcased a very balanced scoring attack, finishing the night with four players in double figures. Shanya Glover and Tahlea Tirrell led the way with 21 points each—Glover adding 9 rebounds and 6 steals, while Tirrell secured a double-double with 12 rebounds. Zoey Wooten contributed 18 points to fuel the offense, and Tavara Swonger rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points while also producing a strong all-around performance with 5 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. Makyia Kenney added 8 points and 10 rebounds, providing another key presence on the boards. The Lakers' depth and balanced attack allowed them to consistently pressure Central CC on both ends of the floor.
On the boards, Iowa Lakes controlled the glass, outrebounding the Raiders 41-31, which helped create second-chance opportunities and limited Central CC's possessions. Defensively, timely stops and consistent effort kept the Raiders from mounting a comeback, allowing the Lakers to secure the important road victory.
Coach Martin said, "It's a good first win in conference play tonight. I'm proud of the team for making winning plays when we needed them. I thought our defense really locked in in the fourth quarter and got timely stops."
Iowa Lakes returns to action at home against Northeast Community College of Norfolk, Nebraska on Wednesday, December 3rd, with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
