CRESTON, Iowa — The Iowa Lakes Community College women's basketball team earned a convincing road victory Saturday, January 17, defeating Southwestern Community College 63-43.
The Lakers set the tone early, jumping out to a 19-5 lead after the first quarter and maintaining control throughout the game. Iowa Lakes continued its strong play with 16 points in the second quarter, followed by 15 in the third and 13 in the fourth. Southwestern scored 5 points in the first quarter, 12 in the second, 14 in the third, and 12 in the final period.
Shanya Glover led the Lakers offensively with 14 points and was disruptive defensively, recording eight steals. Tahlea Tirrell added 13 points, while Tavara Swonger contributed 11 points. Makyia Kenney anchored the effort on the boards, pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds.
With the win, Iowa Lakes improves to 14-4 overall and 10-1 in conference play.
The Lakers return home to face Kirkwood Community College on Wednesday, January 21, with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Estherville.
