Iowa Lakes Women’s Basketball Rolls Past Marshalltown

ESTHERVILLE, Iowa — The Iowa Lakes Community College women's basketball team earned a dominant victory on Saturday, January 24, defeating Marshalltown Community College 75–39 in Estherville.

Iowa Lakes set the tone early, taking an 18–11 lead after the first quarter and extending the margin with a strong second quarter, outscoring the Tigers 24–7 to take a commanding halftime advantage. The Lakers continued to control the game in the second half, winning the third quarter 15–9 and closing the contest with an 18–12 fourth quarter.

Makyia Kenney led all scorers with 16 points while also pulling down eight rebounds. Shanya Glover added 14 points, Erica Welsh chipped in 11 points, and Tahlea Tirrell finished with 10 points to round out the Lakers' balanced offensive attack.

"I was really pleased with our offensive production and how well we moved the basketball," said head coach Ashley Martin. "We did a good job sharing the ball and finding the open player, which allowed us to stay in rhythm all game."

With the win, Iowa Lakes improves to 15–5 overall and 11–2 in conference play.

The Lakers will travel to Norfolk, Nebraska, to face Northeast Community College on Wednesday, January 28, with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Iowa Lakes returns home on Saturday, January 31, to take on Southwestern Community College at 1:00 p.m.
