The 2025-2026 Iowa Lakes Women's Basketball team enters the new season with excitement, energy, and a clear sense of purpose. With a strong mix of returning experience and a deep freshman class, the Lakers are determined to build momentum early and make a statement in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.
Returning sophomores Sarah Visser (Ely, MN) and Zoey Wooten (Burnsville, MN) bring leadership, quickness, and experience to the floor. Both are steady playmakers who set the tone with their effort on both ends of the court. Head Coach Ashley Martin, now entering her 11th season at the helm, says the pair have been key in helping guide the younger players.
"Sarah and Zoey know what it takes to compete at this level," said Martin. "They've done a great job leading by example and showing our freshmen what it means to be part of Iowa Lakes basketball."
The 2025-26 freshman class adds athleticism, versatility, and a strong work ethic. Newcomers include Jaleese Williams (Rockford, IL), Shanya Glover (Minneapolis, MN), Zarihana Atlas (Minneapolis, MN), Tavara Swonger (Las Vegas, NV), Baakir Christian (Chicago, IL), Erica Welsh (Maple Grove, MN), Makyia Kenney (St. Paul, MN), Carley Lewellen (Glenwood, IA), and Tahlea Tirrell (Moline, IL). The group has already shown flashes of chemistry and toughness that have Coach Martin optimistic for the season ahead.
"This team has a great mix of energy and competitiveness," Martin added. "We want to play fast, defend hard, and keep improving every single day."
The Lakers have their first home opener on Friday, October 31st hosting the 1st Annual Daryl Madison Classic at 5:00pm vs Highland CC out of Illinois. Then on Saturday, November 1st they host Milwaukee Area CC at 3:00pm.
