Estherville, Iowa – The Iowa Lakes Lakers earned a hard-fought 53–41 victory over Iowa Central on Wednesday night, using balanced scoring, tough defense, and strong rebounding to defeat a Tritons squad receiving votes in the national poll. The matchup proved to be a defensive battle from beginning to end, with both teams grinding through possessions and trading stops.
Iowa Central opened the night with a narrow 13–11 lead after the first quarter, but the Lakers responded with a dominant defensive effort in the second period, outscoring the Tritons 12–3 and taking a 23–16 lead into halftime. The third quarter remained tightly contested, with Iowa Central edging Iowa Lakes 11–10, but the Lakers maintained a slim lead heading into the fourth. In the final period, Iowa Lakes delivered its strongest offensive stretch of the night, erupting for 20 points while holding the Tritons to 14 to secure the 53–41 win.
Depth played a major role in the victory, as every player on Iowa Lakes' roster scored, and the bench contributed 23 points, energizing the team throughout the contest, while Iowa Central's reserves added just 2 points. Physicality on the boards proved decisive, as Iowa Lakes outrebounded the Tritons 36–25 and scored 8 second-chance points, compared to none for Iowa Central, helping the Lakers control the pace and extend their lead.
