Iowa Lakes Women’s Basketball Dominates Southwestern at Home

ESTHERVILLE, Iowa — The Iowa Lakes Community College women's basketball team earned a convincing home victory on Saturday, January 31, defeating Southwestern Community College 71–34 in Estherville.

The Lakers jumped out to an early lead, taking an 18–5 advantage after the first quarter. After a slower second quarter, Iowa Lakes came out firing in the third, outscoring the Spartans 29–10 to put the game out of reach. The Lakers closed the contest with an 18–11 fourth quarter to secure the win.

Scoring by quarter:

  • Iowa Lakes: 18, 6, 29, 18
  • SWCC: 5, 8, 10, 11

Zoey Wooten led the Lakers with 18 points, while Shanya Glover added 13 points. Iowa Lakes controlled the boards throughout the game, led by Makyia Kenney with 12 rebounds and Baakir Christian with eight rebounds.

With the win, Iowa Lakes improves to 17–5 overall and 13–2 in conference play.

The Lakers will travel to Iowa Falls to face Ellsworth Community College on Wednesday, February 4, at 5:30 p.m. Iowa Lakes' next home game is scheduled for Saturday, February 7, at 1:00 p.m. against DMACC.
