Men's Wrestling set for the NJCAA National Tournament

Men's Wrestling set for the NJCAA National Tournament

Iowa Lakes will have ten wrestlers competing at the National Tournament on March 6th and 7th at the Mid-American Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. These ten athletes qualified through strong individual performances at the North Central District tournament where the Lakers placed 5th as a team. Qualifying a full squad of 10, is a huge milestone. Head Coach Corey Meyer said"It's a huge milestone for our program at Iowa Lakes Community College. Qualifying 10 out of 10 guys isn't something that happens by accident — it's a reflection of the work these athletes have put in all year and the standard we've built in our room. To take a full roster to the NJCAA National Championships shows our depth, development, and commitment to doing things the right way. I'm proud of the consistency and growth we've seen across every weight class."

Head Coach Corey Meyer had this to say about the Lakers preparations" Physically, we're sharpening — not overhauling. At this point in the season, it's about fine-tuning positions, cleaning up small details, and keeping our guys healthy and fresh. Mentally, we're focusing on confidence and clarity. Nationals can feel big, but our message is simple: wrestle the way we train. Trust the work, stay present, and compete one match at a time. We've also emphasized all year that it takes contributions from the entire lineup. Team success at this tournament isn't about one or two individuals — it's about scoring points at every weight class. Every advancement point, every bonus point, every match matters. A big part of our preparation has already been done through our schedule. We've competed against some of the best competition in the country all year. We intentionally sought out tough matches, wrestled multiple times a week, and put our guys in demanding situations. We've challenged them with high expectations and tough tasks all season long. That strength of schedule and consistent pressure has prepared them for this moment.

Coach Meyer said "Our expectation is to compete hard in every match and put ourselves in a position to score points for the team. When you bring a full lineup, you create opportunities across the board—but we need production from all 10 guys. Scoring points at every weight class is critical if we want to accomplish our goals. Because of the competition we've faced and the way we've trained, I believe our guys will feel prepared rather than overwhelmed. If we wrestle to our standard, stay disciplined, and handle the moment, I think we'll see some big performances.

Having a strong full roster competing at the tournament, Coach Meyer said this "It's tough to single out just one because our strength is in our depth. We've had five guys ranked inside the top 10 nationally at different points throughout the year, which speaks to the level of talent and consistency in our lineup. We've got multiple wrestlers capable of making deep runs, and several have made major jumps since the start of the season. What makes this group dangerous is that they believe in each other and understand their role in the team race. When all ten are contributing and scoring points, we're a tough team to deal with."
